Meet Amanda!
Hi! I am Amanda Eriksen RYT-500
I know how important the practices of yoga are for me to thrive as a busy mom of two. I strive to blend the ancient roots of yoga with my vastly different world. My style of teaching is one where I encourage students to find mindful movements that feel good in their bodies. I encourage my students to find what is right for them.
I have taught all stages of life from prenatal yoga, babies, toddlers, children, as well as adults and seniors. My classes involve movement, breath and meditation that I have learned through various trainings and personal experiences across a variety of movement systems. This includes hatha yoga, yin yoga, energy movement, Pilates, and dance. I believe yoga is fun and bring a sense of play to my classes.
My journey into Yoga for the Brain started after dementia effected people I love. I began running Yoga for Memories classes twice annually in 2018 and 2019 as a fundraiser to support the wonderful programs offered by the Owen Sound Alzheimer’s Society. The Yoga for the Brain program has taken off from there.
Yoga for the Brain is not just for people with dementia! The brain is a muscle that needs exercise too! As we age our bodies become specialized. What we use we become really good at using, and what we don’t use gets “lost”. Yoga for the Brain uses mindful movements, breath practices and meditations that incorporate the left and right sides of the brain at the same time to help rediscover neuropathways or create new ones. This is what the brain needs to stay young! All the benefits from yoga – increased mobility, finding calm and a deeper ability to listen to self – can be found in this class too! I teach different experience levels so that this program is accessible to all!
Away from my mat, you can find me walking my dog Rocky or canoeing with my family in Algonquin Provincial Park.
My yoga education journey Began in 2013 at DevaTree School of Yoga with 500 hours of of Cross-Disciplinary Yoga Teacher Training. My trainings through DevaTree include Prenatal Yoga, Ayurveda, Longevity Yoga, the Subtle Energy Body, anatomy, and meditation.
I have also completed 15 hours of Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Alina Calinescu E-RYT-200 in 2013 and 15 hours of The Art of Assisting Yoga Postures with Shannon Crow E-RYT-500 in 2016.
